Body 13 & Beach Dance Party

By The Ensemble

January 2014

Gwaandak Theatre and the Yukon Arts Centre co-present MT Space's Body 13.

Three love stories, a stretch of Canadian beach, a wedding and a funeral...

Rita tries to scatter the ashes of her father. Like Hamlet, she hesitates. Assaf walks up and down the beach looking for something, or looking for nothing. He misses a daughter and contemplates a life lost in the Lebanese civil war. Tristan from Newfoundland meets Ato from Ghana. They have nothing in common, and yet... Iman, a recent refugee from Syria, coincidentally meets her immigration officer Rae. The two women find themselves facing generational, cultural and political differences forcing them apart, or maybe pulling them together. Thomas, the grandson of a British war veteran, prepares for his speech at his best friend’s wedding.

Tackling the politics of the sexualized body — the intertwined stories of characters driven by their desires — propelled forward or derailed ...

An exploration of intergenerational and inter-gendered conflict amongst international cultures where vastly different cultured bodies encounter one another...

Signature physicality and dynamic improvisation tackle the core subject of human relationships negotiated through body language and sub-cultural communication.

Join us on the beach!
