The General Manager (GM) is responsible for effective, timely, and reliable direction of the company’s admin, operations, and human resources, as well as overseeing financial policies and procedures in collaboration with the Bookkeeping team (Oui iNc) and Auditors (Bergeron & Co). They will work closely with the Executive and Artistic Director and the Production and Marketing Manager, in a collaborative model that recognizes that, in different scenarios, each management team member will have different levels of authority and responsibility. The GM will also work with the board of directors, and a variety of artistic, technical, administrative and production contractors who help deliver Gwaandak’s programming throughout the year.
The GM position has been developed over the past four seasons and the incoming GM will inherit a strong foundation of clearly defined administrative procedures, as well as a roadmap to support ongoing growth as the company’s programming continues to evolve. The incoming GM will receive training from the outgoing GM, as well as ongoing support for at least 6 months, the nature and duration of which will be determined in collaboration with the incoming GM, depending on their experience and comfort with different aspects of the position.

Administrative and Operational Direction - To optimize the effectiveness of Gwaandak Theatre Society (GTS) operations by following and updating admin policies and practices that create the highest level of efficiency possible.
Financial Management - To oversee and execute all financial operations of GTS and to ensure that financial management processes evolve, as necessary, to meet best practices. This includes managing the Bookkeeping team and liaising with the Auditors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
The successful candidate will be a capable manager. We are seeking an individual who has experience in administrative processes, operational strategies, and managing contracted companies/individuals. While experience and training are an asset, we want to acknowledge that lived experience can also provide the skills to excel in these fields - as such if you are interested in this position please submit, or reach out to colin@gwaandaktheatre.ca to have a more in depth discussion about your eligibility.
As there are a number of options for the incoming GM to receive ongoing support from the outgoing GM, we encourage candidates who are interested in the position but may only have experience with some of the roles/responsibilities (for example, experience managing and in an administrative position, but less experience or familiarity with the financial processes and procedures of an organization of this scale) to apply. If you have any questions about the GM’s responsibilities, please email rebecca@gwaandaktheatre.ca
In addition to being a passionate advocate for the performing arts, the ideal candidate will have:
Management qualifications or related training and experience;
Experience in theatre, arts or not-for-profit sectors;
Experience in financial management, which may include familiarity with bookkeeping organizational systems, updating budget documents with actuals, creating budget and actuals reports for funders, and cashflow documentation;
Proven organizational and time management skills with ability to multi-task, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure;
Some awareness of the national theatre ecology, with a particular understanding of contemporary Indigenous, northern and diverse arts perspectives, and willingness to learn more;
An interest not only in developing the capacity of this organization, but also in contributing to the growth of our broader sector in Whitehorse, the Yukon, and Canada;
An ability to work with and contribute to a multi-faceted team;
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
High degree of computer literacy including: proficiency with Microsoft software (Word and Excel), Google Suite, Quickbooks, and online banking platforms;
Ability to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner.
