Awaken Festival 2026 - Save The Date

Join us in Whitehorse YT and Online for the Seventh Annual Awaken Festival (April 12th-26th, 2026)!

Request for Letters of Interest - CITF Application

This past April, Gwaandak Theatre was pleased to host the first ever Awaken Theatre Gathering during the final Sunday of the 2025 Awaken Festival. We had several amazing speakers and panellists join us in Whitehorse to share with both local and visiting artists about their own theatre work and professional experiences.

We are looking to continue developing this Gathering and are applying to the Cultural Industries Training Fund (CITF) for the sake of presenting this event at Awaken Festival 2026, with the Gathering currently planned for Sunday April 26th. If our work has resonated with you, either as an artist, audience member, community partner or any combination thereof - including if you attended the first Gathering and/or would be interested in attending the upcoming one - we would love to hear from you!

A letter of interest sharing how Gwaandak has made an impact for you or your organization would go a long way in strengthening our application. If you are able to write a letter of interest, please send it to colin@gwaandaktheatre.ca by Friday, September 5th. Should you have any questions about drafting a letter or would like to know more about other ways to support our work (including through donations and sponsorship), we would be happy to follow up with you about that as well!

Seeking Short Term Artist Accommodation

As a national theatre company, we often have artists from out of town working on our productions and residencies, and those artists need a place to stay! If you have a private room or a house/apartment that could temporarily house an artist or group of artists, please consider filling out our Billeting form. If we think you’re a good fit, we will reach out to you with more details. Thanks!

Call for Partner Organizations/Programming

Do you or your organization offer a free-to-participants workshop based on sharing skills, knowledge, or experience occurring in April 2025? Please feel free to reach out to us here as we would love to include as many community capacity building workshops at Awaken Festival 2025 as possible.

Call for Scripts

Gwaandak Theatre is always looking for script submissions from Indigenous playwrights to be considered for our Indigenous Summer Play Readings and Annual Fall Show. If you have a new script that may not be on our radar, or if you have a colleague with a great script, please get in touch!
