A Conversation about Drama - September 19th - Whitehorse Public Library: An invitation to playwrights of all levels to join us in a discussion and question-and-answer session with award-winning playwright Colleen Murphy, as she ends her Berton House Residency. This event will be followed by Murphy’s public readings hosted by Yukon Public Libraries.

Colleen Murphy is a playwright, filmmaker and librettist. She has two new plays premiering in 2013, Armstrong’s War at the Arts Club Theatre in Vancouver in October, and Pig Girl at Theatre Network in Edmonton in November. Armstrong’s War just finished a successful run at the Finborough Theatre in London UK. In 2011/12 she was their Playwright-in-Residence and three of her plays were produced, including the world premiere of The Goodnight Bird. Colleen’s play The December Man (L’homme de décembre) won the 2007 Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama. Other plays include Beating Heart Cadaver (nominated for a Governor General’s Literary Award), The Piper and All Other Destinations are Cancelled. She is also an award-winning filmmaker and her distinct films have played at festivals around the world. She is currently working on a new play O’Brien Road and a new film Bloodsucker Waltz. Her full length opera The Enslavement and Liberation of Oksana G. with composer Aaron Gervais will premiere in Toronto in 2015.

the art of belonging - December 2nd - Student’s Lounge, Yukon College: Gwaandak Theatre, Yukon College, and Canada World Youth present a night of anti-racism performances showcasing youth voices. Youth will share their views on racism, how some people have been affected by it or are still affected by it. They will perform short pieces by acting, singing, dancing, reading poetry, etc.

Gwaandak Theatre and our Canada World Youth Volunteers, Madoma and Yvone, will present short performances including Mozambique dancing and a monologue called "Don't Identify Me". Help us to bring awareness into the community about racism and how each of us can stand up and stop racism. Welcome to everyone. Refreshments and bannock by donation.
