Making Progress: A Reading of Plays in Development
July 2020
Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association, Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre, & Gwaandak Theatre are proud to co-present this unique reading of new plays.
Gwaandak Theatre seeded the development of these scripts during our personal isolation. GTNT facilitated 2 aspiring Indigenous playwrights in Saskatoon. When Gwaandak approached about the possibility of a reading of in devlopment work, GTNT was eager to support.
In lieu of our usual encore reading at the Adäka Cultural Festival, we are partnering with YNFCT to share these scripts with everyone, as a glimpse into how theatres bring their plays from first draft to on stage. All Indigenous organisations rely on new and emerging artists for their continued existence. We are honoured to partner with both of these organisations to support the next generation of Indigenous Art Makers.
Featured plays are Second Circle by Elowynn Rose, River Woman by Katey Wattam, and Mihko by Nitanis Bear.
Thank you to our core funders Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada and Government of Yukon for your ongoing support and commitment. This reading was be free in order to continue to provide activity and relief during our current situation without adding financial barriers.
