Queer Yukon and Gwaandak Theatre partnered for the first time to create The Indigi/Queer Online Cabaret, a mentorship opportunity followed by a digital performance on May 9th as part of the 2020 Awaken Festival. Performers or aspiring performers (based in priority out of Yukon, NWT, Nunavut, or Nunavik) of ANY experience level were given the opportunity to develop their performance skills through digital mentorship and create a 4-10 minute piece that could be shared as part of the Cabaret. This opportunity was designed specifically for individuals who were interested in creating a performance for a digital Indigi/Queer Cabaret, identified as part of LGBQT2SIAS+, Queer, Indigi-queer, or Indigenous communities*, and wanted to build bridges between Indigenous and Queer communities.

*We recognize that not all terms always work for all people, and that many people belong to marginalised communities while rejecting colonial, restrictive, and specific language around identity politics - as such we welcome applications from all people. However Gwaandak Theatre and Queer Yukon will ensure that our shared goal of representing, uplifting, and celebrating Indigenous & LGBQT2SIAS+ people is fufilled.
