Gwaandak Theatre is dedicated to making theatre accessible to youth, including Indigenous and other rural youth in remote northern communities, and to promoting appreciation of theatre arts and awareness of theatre careers with young audiences. One of our initiatives is the Storytellers Rising program, which provides tickets for Indigenous youth between the ages of 14 and 20 to attend Whitehorse theatre productions throughout the 2023/2024 Season.
Since 2000, almost all of our productions have included youth outreach components, including school matinees, artist visits in the schools, inclusion of youth participants, and - since 2011 - comprehensive School Study Guides for educators and students. These free downloadable Study Guides are a valued curriculum tool which allow for enhanced exploration of theatre as a powerful art form, and for deeper understanding and discussion of important issues raised in each play.
