Playwriting/Writing for Performance Circle
Call for Applications | Winter 2019
WHO’S IT FOR?
This mentored group is for Indigenous and northern artists who are passionate about writing for performance. The emphasis is on development of first drafts and/or revised scripts in a supportive, focused, stimulating workshop environment. This professional development opportunity is open to motivated creators with plays and performances in development, including playwrights, storytellers, writers, dancers, musicians and artists from other genres. Yukon Voices is based in Whitehorse but welcomes other participants via Skype.
6 bi-weekly evening sessions, late January to April 2019, plus 1-day weekend writing intensive and public sharing of works-in-progress.
WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
Participants (up to 8) will develop and hone their skills through discussion, storytelling and writing exercises, careful reading of each other’s scripts and constructive critiques. Sessions will explore questions of character, plot, dialogue, structure and style in a hands-on approach, as we delve together into each participant’s new work. Yukon Voices is facilitated by Patti Flather, Gwaandak Theatre’s Artistic Director and an award-winning playwright, and Siku Allooloo, Gwaandak Theatre’s Artistic Producer.
$75, payable on acceptance. Writers for whom the program fee is a barrier can identify themselves to Gwaandak Theatre to arrange a flexible payment plan or fee reduction.
