Seeking a Production Manager
Gwaandak Theatre is seeking qualified applicants for a Production Manager for:
Vuntut Gwitchin Stories for Theatre, in partnership with Vuntut Gwitchin Government
- Includes radio play production and public readings in Whitehorse & Old Crow, Winter 2019
- contract position of approximately 10-weeks half-time from mid-January to early April
- Contract fee: $5,000 (Gwaandak Theatre will consider dividing this contract among more than 1 contractor for different phases)
The Production Manager is responsible for: (1) overseeing, planning and coordinating all aspects of the Production Department including scheduling, budgeting and travel management (2) encouraging the highest level of artistic creation in the Production Department (3) facilitating the flow of information amongst artistic, administrative and Production staff and contractors.
This production is scheduled to take place in late February 2019 in Old Crow (9-day residency including travel days, with anticipated dates: Feb 22-March 2), mid-late March 2019 in Whitehorse (11-12 day residency) and/or early April (4-5 days residency) in Old Crow. There also will be a short script/translation workshop in Old Crow Feb. 4-5. The Production Manager will not be expected to travel to Old Crow.
Several original radio plays adapted from Long Ago and contemporary stories will be rehearsed and produced in English and Gwich’in in Old Crow during the 9-day residency. The scripts or excerpts also will be shared in public readings in Old Crow during this phase. Note that Old Crow is a remote fly-in community, and there likely will be limited tech time and tech elements.
The scripts or excerpts also will be rehearsed and shared in public readings over 1 week at The Old Fire Hall in March. This is anticipated to be with simple lighting and some sound elements. There also will be 2 short (3-4 days) play development workshops exploring potential theatrical adaptation of this project, in Whitehorse (March) and Old Crow in (April.)
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
The successful candidate will have experience as a Production Manager in the theatre/performing arts sector, an understanding of the theatre-making process and the challenges and demands of a producing theatre, and willingness to learn more. The successful candidate must have leadership, organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task, patience, tenacity, a sense of humour, production/planning/financial management experience, and a valid drivers’ licence.
